One of the challenges that recently-appointed or junior Project Managers often face is finding someone who can advise them on the running of their projects.

Their line Manager may be a competent Project Manager, but many people find it difficult to admit fears or skills shortages to their boss, or to ask for advice on how to handle a job that they are being paid to do, as they often believe that this could affect both the way they are perceived and their career prospects.

An approach we have used with some success is for one of us to meet your Project Manager on a regular basis, to discuss their projects and the approach they are taking to manage them. These discussions are conducted in a “threat free” environment, as the delegate is fully aware that the Consultant has no responsibility for their direct management or career planning.

We meet with the Project Manager concerned on a regular basis to discuss and review their projects and the approach they are taking to manage them. We can then advise on appropriate strategies and review the results of the approaches taken, thus building both confidence and competence.

This Mentoring service can extend from a one or two sessions to assess and assist an individual to set them on the right track, through to supporting a Project Manager over many weeks through all the stages of a major project.

If this approach is of interest to you or may help one of your staff, please contact us for a more in-depth discussion.
